SOAR After School Club
S.O.A.R will inspire students to learn essential academic and social skills, and build a supportive network of caring role models. Most importantly, we will help foster imagination, reading, and play in our students!
After we completed the pilot program Hawthorne's Principal, Katie Francis commented, "SOAR is an after school program that Hawthorne Elementary piloted in the Fall of 2019. This program was geared towards our 4th-6th grade students in order to address the need for productive and safe after school activities. We partnered with United Way and a number of community volunteers to make this program a success. The students were able to build a safe relationships with adults that they could trust. SOAR also brought in a variety of community programs to expose these students to experiences they may not be able to participate in on their own. Each week students were able to share in reading time, arts and crafts, activities, board games, and a community partner event. The feedback for this program was positive from both the students and their teachers. Students were more positively engaged in their classrooms and their overall attendance improved as well. We are looking forward to the next session of SOAR and the new opportunities we can bring to our students."
We hope to offer S.O.A.R after-school club during the 2020-21 school year. Please check back and watch our Facebook https://www.facebook.com/unitedwayif for more info.
S.O.A.R will be held for a six-week period, and it's a wonderful volunteering opportunity.
